Looks like the program was prompted to free up space and to shorten hospital stays, the health of the patient coming in further down the list.
Yep … having explored a little further , EXACTLY as you so aptly noted !
More about " Productivity " than patient care.
As if OUR NHS was more like a factory … ???

New department ?
The Stretcher Bay ?
Where the raw materials are stacked to await processing ?

**On reflection , an allied topic to HOSPITAL DISCHARGES … CUK ???

If too much " Bedrest " , will that not have a impact on the discharge process ???
In turn , that thread is all about the systematic dumping of unfit carees back on us !!!**
A good point indeed Chris. It could well be said that Carers UK needs to focus primarily on improving the carer’s lot, financially by benefits, and increase recognition of carers in the community.
I have been trying to highlight the adverse impact of hospital ward practice of consigning patients to bed (for convenience sake, short term) on the patient’s long term prognosis back at home and in the community.
I assert that hospitals know full well what they are doing but do it anyway because they are not rated based on the long term community , social, costs bourne by local authorities AND US CARERS! The Fit2Sit literature says bedrest has bad consequences after a few days and discharge times may be shortened if patients are not unnecessarily confined. That literature needs to be expanded and implemented on the ward and not just on intake to tidy up the A&E, which is more in the public eye and news headlines!
Me ’ Andle ( My handle ) says it all :
" Without deviation from the norm , progress is not possible. "
Put another way , thinking outside of a box … looking back in.
Far too many are thinking inside a box trying to look out ?
CUK’s number one priority is to support us against ALL outside obstacles … everything else is secondary.
In that respect , a new " Unholy Trinity " emerges … NHS / LAs / DWP … all controlled by … guess who ?
Why are so many carers now jettisoning trying to balance work with caring ?
Look no further than the new Unholy Trinity … sometimes conspiring together to enforce that decision on far too many carers ?
So the work is very much in progress with the aim to publish a research report in the summer. As part of the research, we will be including some questions on physical activity in our annual State of Caring survey. So I do encourage you and other forum members to complete the survey and feed in your thoughts so that we get a good picture. I believe the survey should open from mid-Feb and we’ll post a note about it on the forum.
In the meantime, we have a web page specifically about the project which is being updated as the project develops. See below. Carers and Physical Activity: A study of the barriers, motivations and experiences of unpaid carers aged 55 and over in England | Carers UK
If you have any further questions, please email policy@carersuk.org and my colleague will get back to you.
