Unsafe hospital discharge? 6 weeks intermediate care?

You should be able to claim for 24 hour care at home, with a live in carer. Insurance is designed to put you back, as near as possible, to the position you were in before the accident, and as she was living at home before, that is what they should be aiming for, with appropriate support.
Has anyone done an independent medical examination from the insurance company yet? I’m sure there are special charging rules for the hospital when an RTA is involved.

Correct again , BB.

Excellent thinking Bowlingbun! Puts a whole new perspective on things…

Time to keep track of any expenses encountered as a result of your grandmother’s accident.

Another thought, you might want to talk to a no win no fee solicitor with regards your grandmother filing her own claim, instead of relying on the drivers’ insurance companies battling it out. They ought to be able to advise if that’s appropriate.

I’m currently working with such a company on behalf of my late mother.

Happy to help, especially as this lady may never be the same again.

Nope, no assessment under insurance yet, although I know that the driver (gran’s friend) has just had one. Not sure how claim’s work if you’re a passenger in the vehicle? But I know my uncle is dealing with paperwork relating to it all…

After pressure from us, it’s been agreed that Gran will have daily care visits to help with washing and dressing, and possibly with cooking a meal. And they are “assessing” her bed and sofa remotely to see if they are a suitable height.

Gran is currently trying to refuse various bits of equipment and says she doesn’t need help with cooking… so not exactly helping the situation!

I’m not sure that your uncle is really dealing with this properly.

He needs to make a claim to the driver’s insurance company asap.

Thanks Rosemary, that is also a good point to consider

I believe he is doing (or has done) that BB… I just don’t know how it’s all progressing.

Hope your grandmother hasn’t downplayed her injuries to her friend and then he downplays her condition to the insurance company. Also hope there’s sufficient insurance coverage. I’d like some leegal representation myself. It is a step in right direction that they’re looking at a care plan for her.

No, her friend is fully aware of gran’s injuries, as is my uncle who’s been completing all the paperwork on gran’s behalf. Not sure about legal representation though. So that’s something to check.

Very pleased that a care plan is being put in place - thanks for all the advice
